Temperament: Smart, docile, gentle and affectionate is the best way to describe these beauties! Ragdolls have a sweet and friendly disposition, making them wonderful companion animals. They have many dog-like qualities, which has earned them the nickname “puppy cat”. They love to be in human company, and will often follow their humans from room to room. They are an intelligent breed, and can be taught to perform tricks, walk on a leash and play fetch.
Size: Ragdolls are a large breed, with males often weighing 15- 20 lbs, and females 10-15 lbs.
Lifespan: Ragdoll cat lifespan ranges from 12-23 years, with oldest Ragdoll cat recorded having lived to 38 years old, according The Ragdoll Cat Lifestyle. Lifespan largely depends on genetics, care and lifestyle of the particular cat.
Grooming: Ragdolls have a semi-long bunny-like coat, which varies in density and length according to season. The coat texture is silky, soft and plush. Typically, a weekly brushing is enough to keep tangles at bay, however, since most Ragdolls enjoy being brushed this can be done more often and used as bonding time. Nails should be trimmed once per month. Though they typically do not need it, most Ragdolls can be taught to tolerate and enjoy bathtime.
Colors: Ragdolls are a pointed breed, which means that they have darker tips (ears, nose, paws, tail and a lighter body. Their points are temperature sensitive, they are born white as the mothers body is the same warm temperature. The color deepens on the points as the kitten gets older. Traditional Ragdolls always have blue eyes and are either Seal, Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, Red, and Cream colors.
Seal- is the darkest of colors, dark brown almost black
Blue- is a dilution of Seal, and appears as a medium gray
Chocolate- is a medium brown color
Lilac- is a dilution of Chocolate, and appears as a light gray color
Flame- apricot to deep red points
Cream- is a dilution of Flame, and appears as a lighter red color
Non-traditional Ragdolls have a range of eye colors, and come in Mink, Sepia and Solid colors. Not all colors or patterns are recognized by the main cat associations.
Patterns: Ragdolls come in a variety of 3 patterns of Colorpoint, Mitted, Bicolor. Any of these 3 can also be combined with a lynx overlay, as well as tortie.
